Happy Easter!

Every Easter, I find myself on a crafty mission to create treat containers.  And even if we are stuck inside and cannot meet with friends and family, I say that it is still a GREAT TIME to enjoy treats!

So if you are feeling crafty today, here’s little container that you can make to add a little festivities to…well, your festivities!  I thought I would share the sketch I created for these easy milk carton-inspired boxes using a piece of textured cardstock cut to 11.5″ x 5.75″(you can get 2 out of every 12 x12 sheet).

One you do all your cutting and scoring, it will look like this:

Note: when I created these initially, the top part of my carton was wider than I decided to keep it so the top flap in this picture are wider than your will be.  Follow the sketch as your guide for the measurement.  

I love the size of these because they are big enough to hold my favourite chocolate egg treats as well as some of the mini ones too!

I embellished them with the Easter Parade paper from Doodlebug matted on white paper and then topped them off with some Doodlebug Sprinkles.

The tops were trimmed with a flower I created with Petite Prints , a mini doily and mini clothes pin.  I then grabbed my Hoppy Easter stamp set for a sentiment and my new set Occasions – Holidays for the sweet little bunny and these were all done!

And while these would make a great addition to an Easter hunt, I think they would also be great as favours on your Easter table.  Or perhaps send a few off to those you love because it certainly true that we could all use a little chocolate and Doodlebug sunshine right now, don’t you agree?

Look, if you are anything like me, you don’t need an excuse to indulge every once and awhile!  But a little work of advice – buy the big bag of chocolately treats to fill up these beauties when you make them because you deserve a treat too!

Spring has Sprung!

It’s time.  No really. It’s time!  It has been a long and coooooold winter up here in Canada (I know, I know, it should be a long and cold winter up here), so let’s just say I am ready for spring!

So, when Doodlebug’s Simply Spring collection arrived on my doorstep, this collection went straight onto the crafty table.  It might still be white and bleak outside, but my crafty space is filled with the spring colours and cute spring icons that make me smile.  Goodbye winter – hello spring!

I decided to whip up a few treat containers for some of my colleagues – a little surprise for the first day of spring!   With the new doodle stamps and doodle cuts, these were a spring breeze!

Each treat container is constructed out of textured cardstock and topped with patterned paper from the 6X6 paper pad.  Because these treat containers are quite small, the scaled down patterns in the 6X6 are a perfect fit!

And the great thing about working with the new stamps is you can even play around with layering!  This little bird is a separate stamp from the turtle, but I felt they were just meant to be together!

If you have never made a mini milk carton before, you will be amazed at how easy they are.  There are definitely die cuts out there to purchase, but a rectangle sheet of paper and some scissors will do the trick as well!   Here’s a little template to get you started!

Christmas Chocolate bar sliders

Good Morning!  I am getting so excited for Christmas!  

This little project is actually an oldie but a goodie. I created it last year for Doodlebug, but never got around to sharing it here at SCS.  Given that it is a perfect last minute craft, I thought it would be a good one to feature.  If you’ve spent any time here at SCS, you will know that I love Chocolate bar sliders.  They are an easy craft that takes card giving to the next level.  And these ones, featuring   Milk and Cookies and Cream and Sugar is a great way to show that you don’t have to own a whole collection of papers to make something great – mix and match and have fun! 

 

So, if you’ve got some time (or the need to pull off some last minute treat), these will certainly do the trick!  And if you need a tutorial, simply modify this owl one that I created a number of years ago and you will be all set! Thanks for stopping by!

 

 

 

Happy Halloween!

I have a confession to make…I have not always been a person who has loved crafting for Halloween.  The creepy, crawly part of Halloween is just not my thing.  But when I discovered Doodlebug’s Halloween collections, I was hooked.  And with collections like the new Pumpkin Party, I actually craft as much for Halloween as I do for Christmas!

This collection of step cards was inspired by the amazing shapes in the Odds and Ends pack!  I love that there are as many background shapes as there are cute characters!  They make setting up cute step cards as a little scene a breeze!

And while I love the background pieces, like the amazing spooky tree that is as spooky as he is cute, and the fantastic acetate fence, who can deny that this little zombie isn’t as sweet as can be as well!  The Odds and Ends packs are a card maker’s dream!
