It’s Baby time!

Baby-Monsters-all-1

I am so excited to share this post with you today!!  Recently, our very own Ribbon Lady welcomed Ribbon baby, and we have been waiting ever so eagerly to celebrate with this hop.  With two little (but growing) gals of my own, everything baby is still near and dear to me, so this project was all about fun with baby!

One of the first things I learned as a new mom was about something called “Taggie” toys. Everywhere I looked, toys, books and blankets had these little ribbon loops attached.  I had no idea what it was all about until my oldest got a book, and those tags spent tones of time in her mouth.  And boy was that a blessing, because instead of having to fish pieces of cardboard from board books from her mouth, I was simply throwing that book in the wash!  Alleluia!!

So when we decided to do the hop, I knew that I wanted to have some fun with ribbon tags.  I hopped over to the fabric store and picked up some flannel and had some fun cutting out random symmetrical shapes.  With a bit of adorable Twill Chevron ribbon and some of the Double Faced Satin in pretty new colours, my little monsters took shape.

Oh, and here’s one more secret about these little guys – they CRINKLE!!!  Yes, you heard me – give them a squeeze and they have that crinkly sound that babies (and apparently 4 and 5 year olds) love, courtesy of some cheese slice packaging slipped inside before I finished up the seams. It’s this crazy texture that I have to say I thought I would find annoying until I actually played with one.  And now, every time I pick one up, I can’t help but squeeze!!!

Everyone in my family (including the hubby) has a favourite!  And while I originally had a few new babies in mind for these monsters, I have to admit that I don’t think they are going to leave this house.  They have been adopted.  The good news is that I have more flannel where those came from, and there might be a few new monsters to join the clan!

Okay, so  let’s talk a little bit about this project.  I recently got my hands on some the 7/8″ Embroidery/Satin Ribbon from May Arts (I was using white), and I was curious to see if the texture in the ribbon would play nicely with my Gelatos from Faber Castell.  Did they ever!  I simply rubbed 2 of my Mix and Match Gelatos from the blue collection across my ribbon and then added some water, rubbing the colour into the ribbon with my finger.  After it dried, I had this beautiful light blue colour over my ribbon.  I then tried to play up the pattern in the ribbon a little bit more, this time working with a Double Scoop Gelato in Bubblegum to just add a bit of colour along the pattern.  What a fun way to customize some ribbon for any project!

Alright, so get yourself on over to the other blogs so you don;t miss out on your chance to win!  Thanks for stopping by!

Hello baby!

Stork-full

I love baby cards, but I often find that they all look the same.  So when Whimsy and Star Studio released this cute stork and baby digi called “New Arrival” I thought I would play with the colours to come up with something a little less traditional.

Stork-closeupThis digi is great because the shaped are so easy to colour, and you can really play with the fabric on the baby’s blankie to get different effects.  I coloured it with Copics and added some Liquid Pearl polkadots, but this would be great to paper piece as well!  Such a cute stamp!

Don’t forget to pop on over to the Whimsy and Star Studio blog to see what the other DT members created with this fun new stamp, and then hop on over to the Whimsy and Star Studio store to grab one of your own!
