Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!   I saved sharing this little post until today (although you may have seen it over at Doodlebug), because, well, it’s a perfect fit for today!

Almost all of the crafting I do is inspired by (and usually for) those that I love!  And while I know that there are many who are not fans of Valentine’s day, I figure that this world could use a little more love, so why not?!

A few years ago, I didn’t really understand the whole scrapbooking “thing”…now, it’s one of my favourite things to do because I get to tell the story of my little loves (and others too, but mostly them…oh, and donuts! 🙂

And I get to play with pretty paper…

So, I say hug someone you love today.  Or go out and do something you love.  Or just go out and buy something you love.  Because it’s Valentine’s Day – and today you don’t need an excuse to celebrate all that you love!

A little Valentine fun!

May Arts project ideas_Page_1Happy Valentine’s day everyone! I am so very excited to share this post with you today – my first as a guest designer for May Arts!  Yup – you heard (read??) me correctly!  I have the honor of designing a few projects for my favourite ribbon company – just put “May Arts” in my search bar, and you will see just how I often I use goodies from this great company!

The other reason I am so excited to share with you today is that today’s project is inspired by my family. Whether you love or hate Valentine’s day, I am of the personal opinion that it’s great to have a day to talk about love and how we show one another we care!

So let’s get to it!  First up is a cupcake stand:

This little cupcake stand was a breeze to pull together.  Made out of some cardboard and half of a Pringles container, it was as easy as covering these recycled materials with textured paper, and then wrapping some beautiful ribbon around the edges.

One of my favorite components is this simple ribbon daisy that adorns one side of the tray – simply five pieces of ribbon with a rounded edge sew together and topped with a button. Easy peasy!

And who said that Valentine’s Day has to be all about chocolate and strawberries?  Personally, I think vanilla cupcakes topped with blueberries and a little , satin heart is just as pretty as can be!

Finally, I hit the sewing machine to create a fun ruffled apron.

The grosgrain ribbon made this project a breeze!  Not having to worry about creating and sewing the waist band took at least an hour off of this project.   Oh, and I left lots of extra ribbon so it can tie in the front, because as I realized last night, I cannot tie things behind my back. Who knew?

Unconventional Valentines

UV-fullValentine’s Day is just around the corner, and there is no doubt that red, pink, white and hearts are everywhere!  But love can come in any colour and take many shapes, so who says Valentine’s Day needs to be predictable!

It’s challenge day at Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps, and this week I get to be your hostess.  My challenge is all about creating an UNCONVENTIONAL VALENTINES!!  Whether you are playing with colours that wouldn’t usually be considered love themed, or are using images that may not, upon first glance, scream “lovey-dovey”, get creative this Valentine’s day (week?). Create a card, scrapbook page or altered item with a Kraftin’ Kimmie stamp  and then link up because we would love to see what you come up with!

UV-closeupToday, I decided to use this cute image from the Dream Big set.  The two of them just made me think of teamwork, and I thought that was a great theme for  a Valentine’s day card!  As usual, the image is coloured up with Copics, and the paper is combination of MME and Doodlebug.  And while it is true that you will find a lot pink and some hearts on the card, I am still going to insist that this is “unconventional”! 🙂

Now, don’t forget to check out the wonderful creations by our Krafty Girls featuring this week’s challenge!!  If you join us and play along, you could WIN a Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamp!

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a great Saturday!

Sending You Love!

Welcome to the first Wonderful Wednesday challenge for the year at Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps! The theme of the WW challenge is anything goes, I am excited to have an inspiration card to share with you today featuring one of the adorable pig stamps from the “Love is in the Air” collection.

Wild-Wednesday-front

I just love colouring up this stamp!  For this card, I played with a variety of pink and skin tones for the pig (Copic R20 and E00 we base colours for the majority of the stamped image), and then picked a few coordinating colours to compliment the paper choice (which happens to me one of my favourite MME collections ever – My Girl).  I added a bit of Glossy Accents to the heart on the envelope, and a few heart rhinestones on the card for some dimension and shine.  I think it’s a fun not only for Valentine’s, but also anytime you want to send a hug!

So, I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge! Your submission must use at least one Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamp but can be any theme, any style, any design and it can be a card, a scrapbook page, an altered item….you name it!! It must be a NEW creation (so you can’t submit something you made last year…haha!), we’ll have it up for TWO whole weeks, and you can enter until Tuesday, January 21st!! What do you think…..wanna WIN??

Thanks for stopping by and go get crafty!
