Using Sketches for card making

Today, it is my turn to share a little Krafty Tip/tutorial for Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps, and given how much I know you card makers love to use sketches, I thought I would share a little tip for using sketches in different ways.

Recently, Kraftin’ Kimmie used this sketch for one of our September challenges, and I thought it was really simple, but packed with possible variations.  One of the thing I love about sketches is that they can make the card making process really quick!  And the great news is that with a bit of “fidgiting”, you can make a whole collection of cards that look totally different using the same sketch.

Sketch-1

This was the first version I cam e up with, using one of my favourite stamps from the “Happy Haunting” set and some paper from Doodlebug. For this version, I followed the sketch layout pretty closely, just changing the position of the bow and the shape of oval to accommodate the image I chose.  I think it’s a super cute version!

Sketch-2But then I though I would have some fun and see what would happen if I turned the image 90 degrees to the right.  I actually tend to work in landscape a lot because I like the way that the card stands, so turning the image really worked!  All the pieces are exactly the same as they are in the first version – same size, same placement.  The only thing that changed was the direction of the image.  I love that this version shows off a bit more of the paper too!

Sketch-3The last version is simply a stretched out version of the orginal sketch.  Since I still wanted to try another landscape version, I simply took the sketch and extended it out on the sides and pinched it a bit top and bottom.  Again, all the pieces are in the same places, but now the dimensions of them are a bit different (wider than longer).  I really love the balance of shapes and sizes in this one, and it was the one that made the final cut!

Final

So there you have it – one sketch 3 different ways with minimal changes!  Image using this technique to crank out your Christmas cards this year – each one would be totally unique, but you would have them done in no time flat!

I hope this little tip has inspired you to get krafty! Thanks for stopping by!

Candy Cane Kisses

1506690_10152729337291014_5622446376697036056_nGood Saturday morning!  It’s the weekend (happy dance time)! It is also day THREE of the OCTOBER Kraftin’ Kimmie peeksand we have my favourites of this release to show you!

Mailbox-full

Today we are SO thrilled to share the newest set of super cute kiddos by artist CHERYL GRANT! This adorable set features our kids Lexi, Lucas and Lulu having some holiday fun and is called CANDY CANE KISSES! This fun set includes THREE main images plus FIVE awesome sentiments!

Mailbox-cuToday, I chose to team up Lexi with some Doodlebug paper, colouring her up with Copics to coordinate with the paper.  I have tried to keep my Christmas cards a little less “dimensional” this year to save myself on postage, but I think the black borders really help the layers pop and give the card dimension without height!  I think this is one of my favourite cards of the season so far! An image that is a blast to colour, and rich on details – it really does steal the show!

Since it is Saturday, it is also challenge time, and this week our challenge hostess is TANGII.  Her challenge is ANYTHING GOES, so create a card, scrapbook page or altered item with any stamp (but if you use a Kraftin’ Kimmie stamp you’ll double your chances to WIN)!

All the Krafty Girls and Guests listed below have lots of super FUN designs to show you featuring these awesome new stamps from Cheryl! And while you’re hopping around, be sure to leave a comment because we are giving away a gift card!!! You could WIN some Krafty $$$ to spend at the shop!!!! {This winner will be announced at the Facebook release party tonight!} Thanks for stopping by, and tell me – have you started your Christmas cards yet?

Have I got a treat for you today!  It’s time for the HOLIDAY STAMP SET RELEASE from Kraftin’ Kimmie stamps, and you are going to love all the new images that Kim has up her sleeve! Today is day ONE of the seek peaks, and we are showcasing two sparkly new Moonlight Whispers stamp sets by Annie Rodrigue!

Pompom-cuNow, I am absolutely in love with both of the beauties featured today, but I decided to start with POMPOM FAIRY.  I coloured her up in some Christmas-themed colours to coordinate with the Doodlebug paper I still had from last Christmas (it’s still as cute a year later), and then had a bit of fun doodling and adding a sentiment.  I really loved all the details on this stamp and wanted her to take centre stage, so I decided to use a centre step card to give Miss PomPom lots of space.

Below you will find all the Krafty Girls & Guests who have goodies to show you today and while you’re visiting their blogs, be sure to leave some love at each stop because one lucky stamper is going to WIN some $$ to the Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps Shop!
