Blog Hopping fun with Faber Castell!

blog hop bannerOne of the things I love about paper crafting is that there is always something new to play with, and great products to experiment with!  Today DCWV and Faber Castell are joining up for a fun blog hop, teaming up textured products, including gesso, whipped spackle, canvas, chalkboard paint, gelatos, and more!

I decided to push myself right out of my comfort zone and create a mixed media wall hanging using only black, white and kraft colours!  If you’ve ever stopped by SCS before, you’ll know that I love bright and bold, so this was definitely a challenge.  But I was so taken with the textured kraft paper and the stencils from DCWV, and I thought they teamed up so well with the chalkboard paint and whipped spackle from Faber Castell (this stuff looked good enough to put on top of a cupcake)!

Hope-fullTo create this piece, I simply started with two of the DIY Wall Appliques from DCWV’s Domestic Bliss Decor line, and painted them with Faber Castell’s Chalk Board paint.  I then drilled a couple of holes at the top, popped some ribbon through, and then ran it down the back to hold the two pieces together.  Then I got working on the flower.

Hop-flower

The flower was simply created by laying one of DCWV’s new stencils on top of a piece of textured kraft paper from the Woven stack, and then layering some Whipped Spackle from Faber Castell on top.  I didn’t worry too much about creating an even layer as I loved the texture created by spreading the spackle across the woven paper.  Once I peeled up the stencil, I hit the Whipped Spackle with a heat gun (mostly because I am too impatient to wait, but also because it gave the spackle a bubbly texture), and then fussy cut around the edge, leaving about 1/8″ border to showcase the kraft paper.  I created a second flower so that I could fussy cut those petals, and then glue them on top of the full flower (only the inner layer of petals), and then hot glued the finished flower onto the wall applique.  I topped off the centre of the flower with a bit of the chalkboard paint, and voila – texture, texture, texture!
