Beach Fun!

It Trendy Twine time again, and this month, the team was challenged to create a project with a “beach” theme, using the fun and versatile Krazy for Kraft twine.  This was a great chance for me to get caught up on scrapping some of those summer pictures, like these ones:

Last summer, we took our little ones out to beautiful Vancouver Island to visit my sister-in-law.  This was the first time my oldest had a chance to play in the ocean, so I had lots of pictures to choose from (especially since this was only one of many visits to the beach).  In fact, I had so many pictures that I had to venture into uncharted territory and create a double page layout (because I couldn’t possibly have narrowed the pictures down any more, right? ;)).

Anyway, I digress!  Back to twine!  My inspiration for the twine embellishments were knots!  This simple banner was created by punching evenly spaced holes across the layout and then simply tying knots with the twine!  I love the texture it adds, and I think it compliments the seaweed picture just below!

But my favourite is this Celtic heart knot that I tied with the Krazy for Kraft twine and applied to the sun embellishment.  There are so many tutorials online that show different knots – just be aware that twine works a bit differently than rope.  The texture isn’t nearly as “slippery” so you do have to work the twine into shape as opposed to simply tugging   ends.  But the effect is worth it!  Just think of all the boat themed projects that you could embellish with twine knots!

To support the challenge, I also added a bit (okay, more than a bit ;)) of washi tape.  Now, I have a confession to make – just a couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t sure I “got” the whole washi tape phenomenon.  I mean really – it’s patterned tape.  But, (and it pains me to say this) I was wrong!  😉  I love it for flags, easy pennants, and in the case of this layout – even rosette suns!!!  It’s easy to work into projects of all kinds!   I think I need to work on some flower tutorials next! 😉

Oh, and in case you were wondering, I did make sure this was an interactive layout – because you know I love my flaps, pockets and tabs! 🙂

Hidden behind the cute Echo Park Paradise Beach paper are a couple more pictures and a spot for journaling!  I can’t wait to finish this off with a little story about the day at the beach!

Thanks for stopping by!  And don’t forget to check out what the rest of team has up their sleeve for this month, and participate in this month’s challenge!  See you soon!
