Some Interactive Fun – Peek-A….

Last week, I had an amazing time out with my family in Banff, Alberta (If you have never been out to the Canadian end of the Rocky Mountains, you really are missing out)! My girls had a blast sleeping together in the same room (a “snumber” party, as my two year old likes to call it), and we just enjoyed some time away from the regular routine and responsibilities.

But this week, it is back to work and back to crafty time!  I have a bunch of projects on the go, and can’t wait to share the creations (and some new tutorials) with you.  In the meantime, I thought I would look back into my photos and try to find a project to share with you that might inspire some tips and tricks!  And I found it!

This was a layout I created last summer with the BasicGrey Lauderdale collection.  I had actually taken this photo of my youngest daughter and myself by holding the camera out in front of us, and it was actually the photo that inspired the design!  Although I wasn’t happy about the way we were cut off, I LOVED the bright and surprised expression in my daughter’s face.  It immediately reminded me of someone peeking, and the idea for the layout was born.

Although my favourite part of the layout was the picture, I also really love the interactive element that was added to the title to help tell the story.  If you pull up on the large white flower that the top, the missing part of the title “magically” appears!

Peek-a-BOO! I see you, and you and you and you!

The black paper hides the slide so well, and the layered flower that was fussy cut from the paper works perfectly as a pull!

Some dimensional flowers to add a little punch! Inked on the edges of course!

Speaking of fussy cutting, I did manage to get out my scissors and put them to good use for this layout.  Each of the larger flowers was actually fussy cut from the paper, and then layered on top of an identical bloom to create dimension and interest.  Glued down only in the middle, each petal actually pops off the page and was bent and creased to increase the “pop” factor! I know there are many of you who hate fussy cutting, but I love the dimension you can get, especially with flowers, when you get those scissors working.  If I still haven’t convinced you, make sure you pop back next month for some tips and tricks all about fussy cutting!

So what do you think?  Not too shabby for a picture I thought would be met with the delete button!  Thanks for stopping by!
